Broken collarbone

Crashed on my bike two days ago. A car suddenly turned up at an intersection, and on the wet asphalt I hit the brakes, lost balance and smacked shoulder first into the ground at about 25 km/h (15 mph). It hurt quite a bit, but thank goodness I used a helmet, or I wouldn't be writing this. Spent 4 hours at Södersjukhuset (the hospital where I was born, actually) and they confirmed it was broken. Unfortunately at a rather unusual place, so they have to open me up Saturday morning for surgery. It wouldn't heal properly unless they attach the bones together with some welding and use of hemp ropes (I assume).

There are some obvious drawbacks, like being somewhat useless at home when my wife has a hectic time at work, not being able to wash properly, slow typing at work, etc. But also some brief moments of fun, like pouring shampoo into the hand attached to my hurt shoulder, then realizing there is just no f*cking way I can lift my hand to my hair. After laughing at the idiotic situation I had to smear the shampoo over to my other hand to get the stuff to my hair.

Then, of course, I can't do the Vätternrundan bike race in June, and probably won't be biking at all for a month or so. That hurts in more than one way.

Currently it hurts less than I would have guessed. I'm not even on painkillers, but sometimes when I move there is a disturbing cracking noise from my shoulder. Ouch.
